What is Nature Challenge?

Nature Challenge is an interactive platform designed to help people of all ages—especially children and families—connect with nature, engage in outdoor activities, and take meaningful action to protect our environment.

A fun and engaging way to explore the outdoors, Nature Challenge is powered by a network of nature centers, zoos, government agencies, non-profits, and other organizations committed to outdoor education and conservation. These organizations create games, activities, and hands-on conservation projects that help participants develop skills, discover new places, and actively contribute to creating a more sustainable world.

For families, educators, and community groups, Nature Challenge provides a gateway to outdoor learning and stewardship—empowering the next generation to build a lasting relationship with nature.

How It Works:

  1. Explore – Find fun, place-based challenges near you or complete an "Anywhere Challenge" from home or anywhere outdoors.
  2. Engage – Take part in conservation service projects, STEM activities, and outdoor games.
  3. Earn Badges – Celebrate your achievements and track your growing knowledge of the natural world.

For those who can’t always explore in person, Nature Challenge offers digital and self-led learning experiences and Anywhere Challenges—interactive activities that can be completed at home, in school, or wherever you are.

Inclusive & Accessible for Everyone

Nature Challenge is designed with all abilities in mind, offering:

  • Challenges that accommodate different sensory, mobility, visual, and cognitive needs.
  • Resources for families, educators, and caregivers to make outdoor learning accessible.
  • Flexible participation options, so everyone can experience the benefits of nature in a way that works for them.

A Creative Way to Connect with Nature

Both providers and explorers can actively contribute to conservation and outdoor education:

  • Organizations, educators, and businesses can create and share challenges that inspire kids, families, and communities.
